BMW iM2, the sports car goes electric to mark BMW M's 50th anniversary BMW M
The future BMW iM2 is part of Project Katharina and could deliver up to 1,341 CV of power. What a beast!

It will be called BMW iM2 and will be born as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the sporting division of the Bavarian brand. You might think this was inevitable and, for now, it seems that Project Katharina will see the light of day during the coming year, 2022. The BMW iM2 is a fully electric version of the BMW M2 G42 2, whose launch is scheduled for 2022. The future BMW iM2 is based on an BMW M2 CS.
BMW M is preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, 2022, and as a tribute, it is very possible that its first fully electric sports car will arrive. Within the sporting division of the Bavarian brand there has been an internal debate about whether to electrify the BMW M2, the BMW M3 or even the BMW M4. In the end, it was concluded to bet on the electrification of the BMW M2 since it is the lightest model.

BMW iM2, this is what we know about it
Rumors suggest that the future BMW iM2 will have a power output of 1,341 CV. You read that right, don’t worry. This power will come from four electric motors located at each wheel. Together they will offer a radical level of torque vectoring supported by the most extreme battery technology conceived to date within the BMW Group.
For now, everything is secret, but some specialized sources have assured that Project Katharina has already managed to lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes, even surpassing the very BMW M8 Competition and placing itself in the territory of models such as the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. The number of laps the future German sports car can complete before its tyres begin to degrade is also unknown, but that data is somewhat irrelevant since the mission of this model is to confirm that high-performance cars can also have zero emissions.

M performance is not incompatible with electrification, and it is expected that the BMW iM2 will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a time of between 2 and 2.5 seconds. At least equally impressive is the brutal throttle response at high speeds. Project Katharina will continue to be developed, but everything points to the Bavarian sports car featuring limited-edition elements such as the rear seats, the panels, the roof and even the wheels. Do you like the idea? Start saving, because it won’t be presented until 2022.
