BMW is committing to its Leipzig plant and will invest 200 million euros
The brand’s main production plant in Germany will receive a 200 million euro boost to upgrade its production line and improve efficiency

The arrival of the technological challenge posed by the electrification of the range of the main brands represents a considerable effort for all of them. The path must be prepared to tackle the manufacturing of this type of vehicle and to get the plants ready for the mass production of these hybrid and electric models. BMW is one of the brands committed to this shift in trend, and the production systems need to be upgraded, a process that will take place over the coming years.
Although these updates are usually carried out throughout the year, the plants are adapted to the real production needs of the new models arriving. We now know that BMW Group is going to invest 200 million euros to adapt the Leipzig plant, one of the most important in the group, to meet the needs of the brand’s new models.

The Leipzig plant is well known because it is the brand’s main facility, where many very important models are manufactured, so with the 200 million euro investment it will receive over the next two years it will have the infrastructure needed to build the new models arriving in the coming years.
Among the departments that will receive this modernization is the paint shop, and new structures will be built in the workshop and assembly areas, which will undergo modernization to increase their efficiency and manufacturing capabilities. Cars have been changing, and manufacturing plants have had to adapt to these new technologies to successfully meet the challenges posed by the new technologies and the models being prepared.
BMW’s plans involve all of its brands and model series being electrified, with fully electric or plug-in hybrid drivetrains and power units, so its entire range will include versions of this type. Studies carried out by the company indicate that in 2025 the registration of electrified cars will represent 15–25% of the market, so it wants to be prepared to meet those targets.
