BMW M 1000 RR, a new Superbike born on the racetrack arrives on the road

A new Superbike arrives in the city and on the racetrack: the new BMW M 1000 RR, which will be the first “M” motorcycle from the German brand

The M brand, the sporting division of BMW, has until now been applied to a series of M Performance parts created for the most sporty motorcycle from BMW, the S 1000 RR, but now the German brand goes a step further by incorporating into its two-wheeled range its first M model, the new M 1000 RR, which they now present with great fanfare.

The new BMW M 1000 RR is a motorcycle that takes as its base the already explosive S 1000 RR, but in which the aim has been to maximise its performance and improve its characteristics thanks to the brand’s work in the WSBK. It is therefore a motorcycle aimed at all those riders who want a truly sporty machine they can push to the limit on the track, although it should be noted that it is also perfectly valid for riding on open roads.

If the S 1000 RR already delivers truly spectacular figures, the new BMW M 1000 RR improves on them in every respect: it offers no less than 212 CV of power and 113 Nm of torque in a motorcycle that weighs just 192 kg, which translates into 5 CV more and 5 kg less than the S 1000 RR. To achieve this increase in power and a higher rev range, several modifications have been made to the engine, an inline four-cylinder unit, including, for example, new forged pistons 12 g lighter, an adapted combustion chamber and increased compression, thinner rocker arms that are 6% lighter, machined intake ports with new geometry, BMWShiftCam technology for valve timing and lift, and new titanium connecting rods 85 g lighter, among others.

As the clear orientation of the new BMW M 1000 RR is the racetrack, this engine block will be accompanied by an anti-hopping clutch without self-servo effect, which will allow better use of the Launch Control for starts, in addition to featuring the Shift Assistant Pro system to shift up and down without using the clutch, which will allow the direction of gear changes to be reversed with total ease for more comfortable handling on track. All this power can be brought to a halt by brakes bearing the M signature, as on its cars, although in reality it features brake calipers created by Nissin as a result of its collaboration with BMW in the WSBK, painted in the characteristic anodised blue colour that combines perfectly with the carbon wheels fitted as standard.

But all this power would be of no use if the BMW M 1000 RR as a whole had not been properly tuned, so although the chassis has not had its structure modified, its geometry has been changed compared to the S 1000 R, with a more open steering angle, the trail has been increased by a few millimetres and the swingarm is slightly longer, and it can also be adjusted in height. Added to this is a new adjustable rear shock absorber, while the front fork remains the same as on the S 1000 RR, although it does undergo small modifications to the mountings, thereby reducing its weight.

All this impressive engineering is wrapped in bodywork that, as in most new superbikes, relies on wings to generate greater aerodynamic downforce mainly on the front axle, thus preventing a wheelie and helping to achieve more forceful acceleration. These wings have been developed both in the wind tunnel and in WSBK racing by BMW’s official riders, made of carbon fibre, and combine perfectly with the M-style livery in its purest form. You can complement this aesthetic with a host of carbon-fibre accessories that will give it a more racing look.

These will not be the only accessories on the list for the BMW M 1000 RR, all with the aim of being the fastest on the track. You will even be able to know your lap times and receive all the data on the multifunction dashboard with a 6.5-inch TFT screen, and as an option you can activate a data logger that works using the OBD interface and a portable GPS transponder with data from more than 300 circuits.
