The launches of the new BMW M2 and the BMW M 1000 R were presented simultaneously on the market to mark the 50th anniversary of BMW M. Both vehicles compete for supremacy on the track to demonstrate their highly sporting performance. The BMW M 1000 R and the BMW M2 share and meet the most demanding requirements of customers: exclusivity, individuality and high performance.

BMW M 1000 R

The BMW M 1000 R features a powerful 4-cylinder M R engine based on the RR engine, which delivers even more maximum power, higher torque, greater thrust and traction thanks to shorter final drive and gearbox ratios, for getting the most out of driving on country roads and circuits. In addition, the suspension and chassis have been tuned for performance-oriented use on roads and circuits, with fully adjustable suspension elements, a steering damper, a milled handlebar clamp, a wider tubular handlebar engraved with the inscription “BMW M 1000 R” and mirrors at the ends of the handlebar.

With an engine output of 154 kW (210 CV), a DIN kerb weight of just 199 kg fully fuelled, and suspension and aerodynamic technology designed both for high-performance road use and for fast laps on the circuit, the new M R offers a dynamic driving experience in the roadster segment. The maximum torque of 113 Nm is produced at 11,000 rpm, and the M 1000 R’s maximum revs are now 14,600 rpm.

It completes the 0 to 200 km/h sprint in 7.2 seconds thanks to its propulsion and suspension technology, where aerodynamics was a key element in the specification for the development of the M R. At a speed of 160 km/h, they provide an increase in front wheel load of 11 kg at 220 km/h thanks to the aerodynamic downforce generated.

BMW M2

The new BMW M2 features compact dimensions and extremely powerful proportions, as it houses a six-cylinder inline engine with instant power delivery and an exciting appetite for revs. The advanced, sporty driver’s cockpit features the curved BMW display as standard and the option of M carbon-fibre bucket seats. It also includes three-zone automatic climate control, the BMW Maps navigation system, a Setup button and the M Drive Professional as standard.

With a maximum output of 338 kW/460 CV, the engine fitted under the bonnet of the new BMW M2 produces 66 kW/90 CV more than the base unit used by its predecessor. The maximum torque of 550 Nm is delivered between 2,650 and 5,870 rpm, and maximum power is reached at 6,250 rpm. The new engine can rev up to 7,200 rpm. It completes the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 4.1 seconds with the eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox and in 4.3 seconds with the six-speed manual gearbox. It can go from 0 to 200 km/h in 13.5 seconds (automatic) or 14.3 seconds (manual). The new BMW M2’s electronically limited top speed can be raised from 250 km/h to 285 km/h by fitting the optional M Driver’s Package.
