BMW Series 2 Active Tourer 2022: The renewal of the MPV is here, more technological than ever
The new generation of the Bavarian MPV debuts major updates in its styling, technology features and engine range

The second generation of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is now a reality. With a clean, refreshed design and significant updates to its equipment, this MPV will have to face tough rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz B-Class and the Volkswagen Touran.
The MPV segment has been one of the hardest hit by the SUV trend that dominates today. However, the versatility they offer has led brands such as BMW to keep betting on this type of vehicle due to high public demand.
Its new features
The new 2 Series Active Tourer brings a major design change that, without a doubt, reminds us in many ways of its siblings within the brand. The front is, as expected, led by large kidney grilles, as is tradition for the brand. On either side are new light clusters with full-LED technology, sharper than those of its predecessor, and a new bumper with clean lines.

From the side view, the A-pillar is now more raked, giving the MPV a more dynamic look and also improving visibility for the driver. In addition, flush door handles have been fitted, further emphasising the clean design of this new 2 Series Active Tourer.
At the rear, the view certainly recalls a blend of the BMW X5 and the BMW 1 Series. Its sharp rear light clusters and rear window, subtly raked beneath a small spoiler, give the new generation of the MPV a more muscular appearance.

Among the new features of this 2 Series, BMW has added several new wheel designs to the equipment catalogue in 16 or 17 inches, depending on the variant chosen. For a sportier touch, alloy wheels of up to 19 inches are available for the M Sport or Luxury Line trims.
Simple interior packed with technology
The interior is one of the areas with major new features, as it has changed radically. Its main highlight is the new BMW Curved Display instrument panel, which creates a high-tech and very premium atmosphere.

BMW has also paid great attention to reducing the number of physical control elements. As a result, the vast majority of systems can be controlled from the aforementioned infotainment system or from the multifunction steering wheel.
The boot of the new 2 Series has also increased its capacity by 90 litres, resulting in 470 litres or 1,455 litres with the rear seats folded on the 218i and 218d Active Tourer, and 415 or 1,405 litres with the rear seats folded on the 220i Active Tourer.

Generous standard equipment
One of the great strengths of the new generation is its extensive standard equipment, which includes the BMW Maps navigation system, four USB-C ports, a 12 V power socket, a leather sports steering wheel, rain sensor, automatic lights and a long list of driver assistance systems.
As for the new MPV’s engine range, there is a wide variety of powertrains: petrol, diesel and, later on, two plug-in hybrid models.

Engine range
The entry-level variant is the BMW 218i Active Tourer, which features a three-cylinder unit producing 136 CV and 230 Nm of torque. Next, the BMW 218d Active Tourer has a new three-cylinder diesel unit developing 150 CV and 360 Nm of torque. Finally, the 220i features a 48 V mild-hybrid system that improves its efficiency. This engine develops 170 CV and 280 Nm of torque.
For now, BMW has announced that the first units of this model will start appearing on the roads from February 2022, so over the coming months we will keep you informed of its new features and price.
