BMW withdraws the iX electric SUV from its US lineup
The Bavarian brand is confident that the new generation of electric models in the Neue Klasse will exceed the current expectations of its customers.
BMW has decided to stop selling its flagship electric SUV segment model in the US market. The reasons behind the Bavarian brand’s decision appear to be multiple, and although the company justifies it by the imminent arrival of the new models of the Neue Klasse, the situation of the electric vehicle market in the United States is quite complicated at present, which has led other manufacturers to follow the same path by trimming their electric model ranges in the country.
In this way, the iX SUV available in the US market since 2021, is no longer available for orders. In the coming months, the new iX3 will begin arriving in the country, and shortly after, the next generation of the X5 will follow, available in a fully electric version. Both models will incorporate the sixth-generation propulsion technology of BMW and will represent the brand’s electric SUV offering in that market.

No changes in Europe and other markets
In the rest of the world, the iX will remain on sale for now. Production at the German Dingolfing plant continues for the time being, although it is likely to end once the electric X5, integrating the brand’s new Gen6 powertrains, reaches the market. This situation is similar to that of the i4, which will also soon be replaced by the new i3 based on the Neue Klasse platform.
“We remain fully committed to electrification in the United States, and we are transitioning toward our next Neue Klasse models, starting with the BMW iX3 equipped with the latest Gen6 eDrive technology.”

From its conception, the iX was created as an exclusively electric model, with no combustion versions, with the aim of showcasing the capabilities of the fifth generation of electric motors and serving as a foundation for developing the next one. Its innovative design has made it a highly recognizable vehicle in recent years that leaves no one indifferent, but its departure from convention has not allowed it to achieve mass sales volumes.
