BMW X5 F15 Security Plus: The armoured SUV for travelling safely... completely
The armoured car market is quite large, and there are several models available for officials, businesspeople and millionaires who want to travel safely, knowing their car can withstand gunfire impacts, just like this SUV from BMW

These aren’t cars that ordinary mortals like us can drive or enjoy. At least, not as a rule. But they are highly sought after by officials in several countries and by businesspeople and millionaires who have the kind of enemies who don’t mess around. Armoured cars are a market not to be overlooked, and not everything has to be a luxury saloon.
The world of bulletproof vehicles has also taken note of trends, and few trends are stronger than the one for an SUV with which to cover miles off the beaten track. So BMW has presented the BMW X5 F15 Security Plus, an armoured version of its SUV capable of withstanding the most intense punishment.
This model was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2013 as one of the brand’s prototypes and has now moved into production. This version, about to go on sale, will be on display at the Moscow Motor Show taking place at the end of August.
Unlike other armoured models, discretion seems to be the norm with this car. The only hints are its ability to stop bullets from an AK-47 and a black border on the windows, which indicates a polycarbonate coating.
According to the manufacturer, the BMW X5 F15 Security Plus meets the VR6 protection level requirements, slightly below the BMW 7 Series High Protection saloon, another car the brand offers with a high level of protection against firearm attacks.

The increase in this car’s weight has been offset by a modified chassis, while the electronic management systems and brakes have also been changed, adapted to the car’s characteristics.
The engine powering the SUV is a V8 petrol unit producing 444 CV, enough to move the car’s weight and provide the speed needed to be a practical vehicle, as well as resistant to gunfire.
Among BMW’s plans is also a version of this model with a lighter armour, designed to face the violence of the streets, with somewhat lower resistance but useful if caught in a street shootout. We will presumably also see it in Moscow.
