BMW Z4 First Edition: BMW redefines and updates the roadster concept

The new BMW Z4 boasts dynamic proportions, emotional design, fascinating and attractive sportiness, innate qualities of a roadster, as well as technology

Just a few days before the celebration of a new edition of the prestigious Concours d’Elegance of Pebble Beach, BMW already unveils its new interpretation of the roadster concept through the reborn Z4 with the exclusive M40i First Edition version of the model, a limited edition that anticipates the official presentation of the new Z4, which will take place in early October at the Paris Motor Show, and whose commercial launch is scheduled for spring 2019.

Agility and precision in driving, the familiar dynamic qualities of the M series developed by the Motorsport division of BMW, come together in the new Z4 with an even more sophisticated design, a highly complete equipment list and an exclusive finish that adds Frozen Orange metallic exterior paint as yet another attraction in this new installment of the German roadster.

Past and present go hand in hand in the new Z4. The centered position in front of the driver’s seat, the low centre of gravity, a perfect 50:50 weight distribution between both axles, its wide track and the compact wheelbase that define the roadster aesthetic are all retained to deliver the agile handling and driving pleasure expected of a model of these characteristics.

Beneath its long bonnet lies a powerful six-cylinder petrol engine producing 250 kW (340 CV), whose potential will put to the test the excellence of the new sport suspension with electronically controlled dampers, the M Sport braking system and the electronically controlled rear differential also developed by the M division of the Bavarian brand. The new Z4 has everything needed to enjoy the pleasure and thrill of driving a vehicle capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.

The exterior styling of the new Z4 differs clearly from the one previously known for this model. The headlights are vertically aligned on either side of the traditional BMW kidney grille which, on this occasion, is enlarged and integrates a mesh-style design. Above it, the bonnet widens to the point of embracing the front wheel arches, in the style of the most classic sports cars. The power of the mechanicals is also evident in the bodywork, thanks to the large air intakes in front of the front wheel arches and the gills located behind the wheels on both axles, as well as the striking dynamic lines that stand out in the design of its side profile. The lightweight alloy wheels in a two-tone finish with double-spoke design are 19 inches.

Exclusive, sporty interior design oriented towards the driver

Inside, the cabin design is clearly oriented towards the driver, and everything on board is structured in such a way that it is clear that the priority has been the driving experience the driver will receive from behind the wheel. On board, the sense of exclusivity and sportiness is reinforced by the Bavarian brand’s usual quality of finish. This First Edition version comes with upholstery and trim in black Vernasca leather finished with decorative stitching, electrically adjustable seats with memory function, Harman Kardon surround sound system, adaptive LED lights, Head-Up display (the Z4 is the first roadster to fit one), and all the functions of the BMW Live Compact system, which gives the new model all the information and entertainment technology the car requires thanks to its high connectivity capacity.

As for the roof, an essential element for the use of these models, BMW has opted in this version for a electrically operated fabric roof finished in anthracite with a silver effect, developed by the brand’s individual division, responsible for designing its most exclusive add-ons and accessories.

Before its presentation at the Paris Motor Show in early October, BMW will reveal the model’s technical specifications on 19 September, as well as the configuration of its range in terms of available engines, equipment and performance.
