BYD assumes responsibility for any damage caused by its Level 4 autonomous parking system

Until now, no other car manufacturer had dared to take full responsibility for damage caused by a possible error in its autonomous driving system.

The Chinese manufacturer BYD has just announced new Level 4 autonomous parking capabilities as part of its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), known as God’s Eye -the Eye of God-. This update, which will be rolled out via an over-the-air (OTA) software update on the B and C variants of the system, will allow the brand’s vehicles to park completely autonomously in a variety of scenarios, with no driver intervention whatsoever.

What is most surprising about this new system, however, is that the Chinese manufacturer is so confident in its capabilities that it has committed to assuming full responsibility for any damage that may be caused while using this parking function. Something no other car brand had done until now.

In a statement, BYD has highlighted precisely this fact, noting that it is the first car manufacturer in the world to offer this kind of guarantee for autonomous parking. To leave no doubt, this means that BYD will cover all repair costs, third-party damages and personal injury compensation arising from failures or errors in the assistance system’s algorithm.

BYD’s bold move

The company has expressed absolute confidence in the reliability of its God’s Eye technology, stating that it does not expect many incidents to occur. This promise applies to the B (DiPilot 300) and C (DiPilot 100) variants of the system, used in premium and high-volume models, which includes compact electric models such as the Seagull, which in China sells for less than 10,000 euros at current exchange rates.

In addition, BYD has announced that it will soon launch a major update to God’s Eye that will not only improve parking capabilities but also optimize driving and road safety. This system, initially presented in February 2025, is already installed in more than one million vehicles of the brand, from luxury models to the most affordable ones.

The God’s Eye technology enables, among other functions, autonomous driving on motorways under driver supervision, but the new Level 4 parking function represents a significant leap forward, as it eliminates the need for any human intervention under certain conditions.

The God’s Eye system is offered in three variants. The most advanced, God’s Eye A (DiPilot 600), incorporates three LiDAR sensors and is intended for the ultra-luxury brand Yangwang. God’s Eye B (DiPilot 300), on the other hand, uses a single LiDAR and is employed in BYD’s premium vehicles and the Denza brand. Finally, variant C (DiPilot 100), designed for more affordable models, dispenses with LiDAR and relies on cameras and image recognition, thus democratising access to this technology.
