Citroën presents the new electric crossover ë-C5 Aircross

The new generation of the Citroën C5 Aircross is now available in a fully electric version which, given its dimensions, range and interior space, is well worth keeping an eye on.

Citroën has just unveiled the second generation of the C5 Aircross, the new crossover from the French manufacturer that debuts Stellantis’s STLA-Medium platform and which, on this occasion, will reach the market with a fully electric variant, the ë-C5 Aircross, alongside hybrid options.

Focusing on the electric variant, it’s worth noting that the ë-C5 Aircross will be offered in two versions. The entry-level version with Standard Range features a 157 kW powertrain, paired with a 73 kWh battery pack that allows it to cover 520 km on a single charge, according to the WLTP homologation cycle.

Likewise, the Extended Range version raises the powertrain output to 170 kW and the battery pack capacity to 97 kWh, delivering an impressive range of 680 km, also under the WLTP homologation cycle. Both versions use the STLA-Medium platform with a 400-volt architecture.

Production of the ë-C5 Aircross will take place at Citroën’s plant in Rennes, France, and its launch in the main European markets is scheduled for the second half of 2025. However, it has not yet been specified which European countries will initially have it available.

Bidirectional charging will arrive on the ë-C5 Aircross in 2026

The ë-C5 Aircross will come standard with a heat pump and an 11 kW onboard charger for AC charging. From 2026 onwards, a 22 kW three-phase onboard charger with bidirectional capability Vehicle-2-Load (V2L) will also be offered as an option, allowing external electronic devices to be powered simply by plugging them into a Schuko-type socket integrated into the vehicle. Citroën plans to introduce V2L technology in 2026, and additional capabilities such as Vehicle-2-Home (V2H) or Vehicle-2-Grid (V2G) are not ruled out in the future.

To make journeys easier, the ë-C5 Aircross’s navigation system includes the “EV Trip Planner“, which optimizes routes by taking into account the state of charge, traffic and altitude in real time. Users without the 3D navigation option will be able to use the “E-ROUTE” app to plan trips with charging stops from their smartphones.

Hybrid variants complete the range

In addition to the electric version, the new generation of the C5 Aircross will offer plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and conventional hybrid (HEV) variants. The PHEV combines a 110 kW petrol engine, a 92 kW electric motor and a 21 kWh battery, achieving up to 86 km of electric range. This new model also grows in size compared with the previous generation, measuring 4.65 metres in length. Its wheelbase is also longer at 2.78 metres, which improves interior space. The boot offers 651 litres, expandable to more than 1,660 litres with the rear seats folded down.

Although the price list for the various versions of the ë-C5 Aircross is not yet known, this electric crossover is expected to compete with the Opel Grandland Electric or the Peugeot e-3008, whose market prices start slightly below 50,000 euros.
