Do you like the Citroën AMI? Well, a new, more powerful version with greater range is on its way.

The great revolution in urban mobility in Europe took place a few years ago, with the arrival of the Citroën AMI. This small electric quadricycle allowed many people to acquire an urban electric vehicle capable of meeting their mobility expectations. Small, easy to manoeuvre and priced at a level few can afford.

From the outset, the Citroën AMI has a motor capable of reaching a top speed of 45 km/h, so it is classed as a moped and no driving licence is needed to drive it. Its 5.5 kWh battery gives it a range of 75 kilometres, so it is a vehicle designed for the city and is not expected to be seen outside it. But that could change very soon.

A new version of the Citroën AMI

According to information provided by L’Argus, the French brand is reportedly preparing a new version of the quadricycle to increase its capabilities and reach the L7e category.

This would allow it to have a motor with higher power. In this case, the limits rise to an average power of 12 kW and peaks of up to 25 kW. The top speed climbs to 80 km/h, so it could leave the city and, although motorways and dual carriageways would be out of its reach, conventional roads would not pose a challenge for the vehicle.

For this, battery capacity is also important. In the case of this new version, the capacity would rise from the current 5.5 kWh to 10 kWh. In this way, the range could comfortably exceed 100 kilometres. This is good news, offering the possibility of making this small urban car a good option beyond short city journeys.

The confirmation of this new version of the Citroën AMI has not yet been made, but we are waiting to learn more about it. The presence on the market of models such as the recently launched Microlino or the XEV YoYo may have prompted Citroen to enter that segment as well, which could take customers away from the current model.
