The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class has just been unveiled, and these are some of its most important features.

The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class has just been unveiled to the public. The flagship of the three-pointed star brand is one of the company’s best-selling models, and since 1982, more than 10.5 million units have been sold. The new generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class brings some notable changes. The most relevant is the introduction of electrified four-cylinder engines.

The exterior design of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, but the real revolution comes inside. The model now shows a strong influence from the S-Class. The new model is larger in every respect: the wheelbase has increased by 2.54 cm, allowing rear-seat passengers to enjoy more interior space. Legroom has also grown by 1.5 cm. In addition, the model measures 4.68 metres long, 1.86 metres wide and 1.74 metres high. Compared with the previous generation, it is 6.35 cm longer.

The star brand has changed its powertrains and will feature four-cylinder engines with electrified assistance, which makes it a mild-hybrid with an integrated starter generator. The model will also use twin-scroll turbochargers, which translate into less turbo lag. Part of these improvements is the ability to deliver overboost together with the ISG. All variants offered at launch will come with a single transmission option, the ‘9G-Tronic‘ 9-speed automatic, which is 30% lighter than the previous model. It also promises to save space, benefiting packaging and increasing efficiency.

In terms of design, the rear recalls the S-Class, while the front takes more than a few cues from the E-Class and the smaller CLA and A-Class. As before, there are two different grilles, both of which feature a sizeable central star. With the standard exterior, the grilles have decorative elements, while the radiator grille and front bumper have chrome edging. The distinguishing feature of the AMG Line is the striking diamond-shaped grille with the chrome star design.

The interior of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class has undergone the most significant makeover in the model’s history. The centrepiece is the large 11.9-inch (30.2 cm) portrait-oriented screen. The main difference from the S-Class is that the dashboard and central screen are angled six degrees towards the driver. In addition to the central vertical screen, the driver’s area comes as standard with a 12.3-inch high-resolution display.

The operating system is the latest version of MBUX, which, combined with the Hey Mercedes voice assistant, promises users a connectivity experience similar to that of a smartphone. Updates will be delivered over the air (OTA), and a new augmented reality option is available for navigation. This projects a live camera feed onto the central screen, with navigation instructions then overlaid on it. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the first units will begin reaching dealerships in early 2022.
