Ferrari 488 GTE AF Corse, the new Lego gem

Lego has just unveiled the newest member of the family. This new model has won the title of best advanced model kit in the Technic range. These models are designed for builders over 18 years old. The new Ferrari 488 GTE AF Corse will arrive early next year, 2021, so you will soon be able to get to work and build the car that won the GTE class this year at the World Endurance Championship.

The Ferrari AF Corse from Lego measures 49 centimeters in length and has a total of 1677 pieces. Inside the V8 engine, the model features moving pistons. The engine sits in the middle of the model and has a steering wheel that turns to add even more realism. The livery combines red and white and includes the sponsor decals and the corresponding number 51. This is the first Technic model designed in collaboration with Ferrari, according to Lego. It joins other Technic supercars such as the Bugatti Chiron and the recently unveiled McLaren Senna GTR in the company’s line of car models to build.

The Ferrari 488 GTE AF Corse from Lego Technic will go on sale from January 21, 2021 at Lego.com and through retailers worldwide, with an initial price of 179.99 euros. Lego and Ferrari first teamed up more than 15 years ago. “When I was a child, I played with Lego bricks quite often, so when I saw this replica of the Ferrari 488 GTE, I was really impressed, especially considering some of the features they managed to recreate,” said Alessandro Pier Guidi, official driver for Ferrari Competizioni GT. “I have to say that seeing a Lego Technic model of a car I raced and carried my name in has made me very proud.”

Lars Krogh Jensen, Lego Technic designer, said that “having the opportunity to recreate a Ferrari as a Lego Technic model is an absolute childhood dream come true. Ferrari is famous for its truly incredible vehicles, so I knew I had to push the limits of the Lego Technic system to do justice to the dominant idol of the race tracks. This model captures the sophisticated silhouettes of the iconic car while paying tribute to its engineering prowess to capture the true essence of the 488 GTE. Building it is a great challenge for any enthusiast who appreciates excellent design and is interested in learning more about the engineering and technology needed to build such an impressive car.”
