Ferrari gets excited about hybrids in 2019, with a new hybrid V8 engine for its first SUV?
Ferrari wants to have a new V8 engine with hybrid technology ready for 2019, although it has not specified which model it will go in, so the SUV is being considered.

Ferrari has already decided to present a hybrid model, the Ferrari LaFerrari, and it seems the move has paid off, because they are already looking for a second engine that falls within that technology. It will be a V8 block that will work with hybrid technology and will offer all the functionality and power that has been tested on “mules” for some time now. These tests are allowing the engineers of the Italian brand to collect all the engine’s operating data and adjust it so that it is ready for 2019.
This engine could be a solution to avoid using a V12 block, which we already know is increasingly being relegated among supercars and could have a fairly uncertain future. Even so, the LaFerrari already has an engine of this type, so even though it is hybrid, it keeps the special experience that this kind of powerful engine offers.

The CEO of Ferrari himself, Sergio Marchionne, has assured that the experience of driving the new model equipped with the hybrid-powered V8 engine will mean the driver won’t miss the powerful V12 engine. Although there is no data on this new powertrain for the new Ferrari hybrids, ideas keep emerging… Will it be a plug-in hybrid engine? And above all, which model will have the honour of enjoying this new hybrid engine?
And this is where news of the development of the hybrid engine connects with the increasingly likely possibility that Ferrari will have an SUV model to go up against the Lamborghini Urus and show that it can also offer a model of these characteristics with all the essence that a Ferrari must have.
This future SUV could increase sales of the brand with the Cavallino Rampante by around 10,000 units a year, especially in China, a market that can absorb these brands and their prices and offer these models that break with the brands’ tradition. One idea that has emerged is that Ferrari could offer this electric mobility solution in the SUV, to make the model far more disruptive than expected. We still have no information about this future SUV, and it is increasingly likely to arrive soon, but we can remind you of the brand’s current hybrid model, the LaFerrari, to show you that anything is possible.
