Ferrari is preparing the launch of the 488 GTO, a version of the model with 700 CV

Only two years have passed since Ferrari presented the 488 GTB, a model that was later followed by several versions, such as a Spider variant and others aimed at the track. Now, it seems the most powerful version of the family is arriving: a powerful car that is about to be presented and that will feature an engine capable of delivering 700 CV.

This is the most powerful version of the model and it is called the 488 GTO, a name that revives the one used for the 288 GTO. That model was based on the 308 GTB and, like the upcoming one, it used a twin-turbo V8 engine, which also made it stand out remarkably among the brand’s models, as it already does. We know there is a customised version of the model, produced by VOS, that reaches 900 CV, but this will be a production car.

These initials stand for Gran Turismo Omologato, which have also been used on the 599 GTO and other models. What we know is that this version will sit in the Ferrari range with the lowest weight and highest power, a category in which several models have already reduced their weight to improve their performance.

We do not have much data on how that excess weight will be reduced, but it is expected that the composition of some of the car’s components will be changed. Among them, a lighter roof, thinner glass made from a lighter material. The reinforced suspension and more efficient brakes will allow the car to handle better on the road and reach 0 to 100 km/h acceleration figures below 3 seconds, which is what the GTB version achieves.

But we still have to wait a little longer for all these details, since the new model is still in development and no exact performance figures are known beyond the power it will offer.
