Fiat 500e, elegance goes electric

The Fiat 500 has been renewed and, among other things, it has now been electrified. The Fiat 500e, as it is commercially known, has become FCA’s first battery electric car. The third generation of the Fiat 500 has been completely redesigned. It is now much more spacious, more technological and even more stylish.

The Fiat 500e offers a range of 320 kilometres according to the WLTP homologation cycle, with the 85 kW fast charger fitted as standard on the model. It is worth highlighting that the new 500 features level 2 autonomous driving systems and is also the first to fit UConnect 5; the new infotainment system of the automotive group.

In addition to the electrified version of the iconic Italian city car, the brand has launched some one-offs that we are sure you will love. These are the Fiat 500 Giorgio Armani, the Fiat B.500 “MAI TROPPO” by Bulgari and the Fiat 500 Kartell. The launch version, meanwhile, is called Fiat 500 “la Prima”, and only 500 units are available, which can already be reserved online. This version includes the Easy Wallbox, among other options.

This third generation arrives as the city model turns 63 and aims to step up its commitment to sustainability. The three one-offs will be auctioned for charity, and the proceeds will go to one of Leonardo DiCaprio’s environmental organisations.

Fiat 500e: range, charging and driving at the highest level

The new Fiat 500e is equipped with lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 42 kWh, which provide a range of 320 kilometres. The model comes as standard with an 85 kW fast charger to recharge the battery very quickly. The fast charger can also charge the battery to 80% in just 35 minutes. The Combo 2 socket, located on the rear right side of the vehicle, allows charging with both alternating and direct current.

The launch edition of the new 500 includes the Easy Wallbox, a home charging system that can be connected to a standard power socket. It is a simple and affordable “plug-and-charge” solution that can be easily controlled via Bluetooth, without the need for specialist personnel, allowing the model to be charged immediately at home with a charging power of up to 3 kW, stabilising the energy supply. In addition, the Easy Wallbox™ is ready to be upgraded to 7.4 kW, providing a full home charge in just over 6 hours. The model also comes with a mode 3 cable for charging of up to 11 kW on the public network.

The new 500 is fitted with three driving modes: Normal, Range and Sherpa, which can be selected depending on the driving style. The electric motor, meanwhile, delivers 87 kW of power, allowing the new Fiat 500 to reach an electronically limited top speed of 150 km/h and to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in nine seconds.

This electrified city car has become the first in its category to feature level 2 autonomous driving technology. Its safety systems include front camera monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, intelligent speed assist, blind spot monitoring and fatigue detection, not forgetting the new generation of its UConnect 5 infotainment system. The dashboard is dominated by a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen in 16:9 format.

What makes the new Fiat 500e special?

As the brand itself states, “in the new 500, all the styling elements are simply more discreet, more restrained and more contemporary. The front, vertical as on the 1957 version, is less flattened, almost facing the road, and the dynamic feel of the side view has been accentuated. The cut line that in the first generation separated the bonnet’s volume from the round headlights has now been redesigned, dividing the modular elliptical headlight with a flap on the bonnet. The slightly more elliptical headlights, which remain iconic, are technological and modern, resulting in a more attractive look, while the door handles are fully flush, with a recess for electric unlocking. A car with a smile, which in the third generation has also not lost its ‘carefree connotation’ expressed by an empathetic front end”.

The essence of the new platform has given the third-generation 500 an incredible presence: it is 6 cm wider and 6 cm longer, the wheelbase has been extended by 2 cm, and the wheels are larger and further apart, giving it more personality and greater interior space, despite a length that remains under four metres.

The new Fiat 500e “la Prima” is available in three colours called Mineral Grey Metallic, Ocean Green and Celestian Blue, a tribute to the earth, the sea and the sky, respectively. In addition to the Wallbox, the new model includes full LED headlights, eco-leather upholstery, 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and chrome trim on the windows and sides. The starting price is 37,900 euros.
