Fiat interested in Opel officially

Fiat

The Italian company based in Turin, could create a major automotive group on a par with Germany’s VAG Group. Who would have thought a few years ago, when Fiat was on the brink of the abyss, that it would rise again and with force. First came the Fiat 500 (a great success for the brand), followed by new models with higher quality and the revival of brands such as Abarth, which had been forgotten.

But the story continues: right now Chrysler is looking at Fiat, and in its alliance, a possible way out of the crisis facing the American brand, of which Fiat will control 20%, and which guarantees the possible arrival of the Italian company on the American continent. The latest news from the Italian house is its public interest in the European division of Opel (which will be separated from General Motors).

The news is quite positive, since Opel would maintain a good level of liquidity and would have the backing of a solid automotive group. On the other hand, Opel (in its European division) is a sweet prize, since things here are going much better than in the USA, and Opel is a profitable brand with an established customer base and good products.

What is still not confirmed is the interest, which some media report, that Fiat could have in GM’s other two brands: Vauxhall and Saab. The first is somewhat obvious: if it is interested in Opel, it would be in the brand’s British division. As for Saab, nothing has been confirmed so far by Fiat. If these last reports are true, the Fiat Group would be a giant the size of the VAG Group.
