Fiat Powertrain Technologies Celebrates Production of 5 Million MultiJet Engines

With five million units produced, the 1.3-litre MultiJet engine has become one of the most widely built engines in the Fiat range and one of the most recognised diesels among everyday drivers.
This engine has been manufactured since 1997, counting the first common rail units that preceded today’s MultiJet. Under its current designation it has been built since 2003 and is used in several Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia models, such as the Fiat 500, 500L, Strada, Fiorino, Doblò, Panda, Punto and Qubo, the Alfa Romeo MiTo and the Lancia Ypsilon.
These engines are currently manufactured in Poland, at the Bielsko-Biala plant, and also in India, where they are produced for Fiat India Auto. Versions range from 70 to 95 horsepower, with the 75 hp version being awarded Engine of the Year 2005 in the 1 to 1.4-litre category. The most recent evolution of the MultiJet is the MultiJet II of 2009, featuring 8 injections per cycle, compliance with Euro V and future Euro VI standards without needing additional devices such as particulate filters or similar.
So if you have a recent Fiat with a diesel engine, chances are your engine is a MultiJet. This engine has earned a reputation for reliability and good fuel economy, one of Fiat’s main development goals and something customers appreciate.
