Ford has temporarily paused deliveries of the Mustang Mach-E due to a problem with the door locking system
Resolving this problem quickly is crucial for Ford, in order to avoid a prolonged interruption in the distribution of this electric model in an increasingly competitive market.
Ford has temporarily suspended deliveries of its Mustang Mach-E electric model due to a software issue affecting the vehicle’s door locking and unlocking system. This fault, related to the discharge of the 12-volt battery, could prevent the doors from locking or unlocking correctly, thereby posing a risk to the safety of people or animals remaining inside the vehicle.
This problem affects more than 316,000 Mach-E units worldwide, built between 2021 and 2025. The company expects to have a software update ready to offer a solution to owners of this vehicle in the third quarter of 2025.
The problem with the electronic locking system may cause the front doors not to unlock, even after using the manual exit mechanism. If an occupant exits the vehicle and the lock does not change state, the door could remain locked when closed, which poses a danger, especially if people or animals are inside. So far, Ford has not reported any incidents or injuries related to this defect.
Safety is a priority for the blue oval brand
As a precautionary measure, Ford has ordered its dealerships to halt the sale and delivery of the affected Mach-E units, also prohibiting test drives
. The recall affects approximately 196,900 units in the United States and another 120,000 in other international markets.
The solution Ford is developing consists of a software update, although it appears this cannot be installed remotely and
will require a visit to the brand’s workshop. Once available, Ford will notify customers by mail so they can schedule a repair appointment, which will be free of charge.
This setback comes at a time when Ford is seeking to reduce costs associated with warranties and quality issues, an area where it still faces challenges against competitors such as General Motors. Despite isolated problems like this one, sales of the Mustang Mach-E in the United States remain solid. In May 2025, Ford delivered 4,724 Mustang Mach-E units, an increase of 11 percent over the previous year. So far in 2025,
nearly 20,000 deliveries have been recorded, 2.8 percent more than in the same period of 2024.
Mustang Mach-E sales in the United States have been boosted by incentives such as the “From America, For America” program, which offers special prices for employees, and the “
Ford Power Promise,” which covers the installation of a Level 2 home charger. However, Ford increased the price of this model in that market for units built in Mexico and shipped after May, justifying the price increase by the application of new import tariffs in the United States.
