Ford Transit Trail and Tourneo Active: vans for every task
Ford adds two exciting versions to its commercial vehicle range: the Transit Trail, designed for the toughest jobs, and the Tourneo Active, with an SUV-inspired look.

Ford took advantage of its partnership with the Madrid Cyclocross Championship to present the new Ford Transit Trail and Ford Tourneo Active by organising a mountain bike ride in Valdemorillo (Madrid), which we did not want to miss. Among the day’s participants was none other than Óscar Pereiro, winner of the 2006 Tour de France, who rode alongside us.
An event like this is the ideal setting to get to know the new Ford Transit Trail and Ford Tourneo Active, two additions to the successful commercial vehicle range of Ford, which has led European sales for five consecutive years. The secret? The versatility and robustness of Ford vans, which have adapted to customers’ needs, making it the first brand to offer Mild Hybrid MHEV technology and plug-in hybrid PHEV variants.

The range is now enriched with these two exciting versions, which we will look at in more detail. To whet your appetite, a summary of the presentation day can be seen in this video

Ford Transit Trail: the “van” that goes where others can’t
The new Transit Trail and Custom Trail have been developed to reach places other vans cannot when working conditions become difficult. To achieve this, the front-wheel-drive variants come as standard with a new mechanical limited-slip differential (mLSD). This differential, developed by Quaife specialists, distributes torque to the wheel with the greater grip, using technology similar to that of the brand’s performance cars bearing the Ford Performance badge, such as the Focus ST and Fiesta ST.
In this way, together with other improvements, such as a recalibrated ESP stability control, the Ford Transit Trail and Custom Trail can travel with greater safety on roads with badly damaged surfaces or even unpaved tracks.

In addition, customers can opt for the version with all-wheel drive AWD, which features a differential lock that splits torque 50:50 between the two axles. The design of this drivetrain does not interfere with the available cargo volume, and allows selection of additional driving modes to tackle mud or very slippery surfaces with the greatest confidence. The available engine is the 2.0 EcoBlue 130 CV, with 48-volt micro-hybrid technology and combined fuel consumption under the WLTP cycle from 7 l/100 km.
Inside, these Trail versions are characterised by leather-upholstered seats, electric mirrors and a heated windscreen. The Transit Trail is available in Van, Kombi, Chassis Cab and Single Cab body styles, in the 3,500 kg category. The Transit Custom Trail is offered in Van and Kombi variants, with two different wheelbases.
Ford Tourneo Active: for multi-active lifestyles
The new Tourneo Active joins the Ford model range under this designation, following the Ford Fiesta Active and Ford Focus Active. As with the passenger cars, the Ford van in Active specification is characterised by a styling inspired by SUV vehicles.

In this case, the Active identifying grille is added, along with 17-inch alloy wheels with exclusive design, roof bars and additional protection on the wheel arches, body sides and bumpers, as well as Active badging.
The interior of these versions also receives exclusive specification, with seats partially upholstered in leather and elegant trim. As befits a vehicle designed for both businesses and private users who lead an active lifestyle, the interior is fully configurable.
It has capacity to carry up to 8 passengers, including the driver. The seats can be moved to prioritise space for cargo or passengers, can be reversed as in an MPV, or removed so that their anchor points can be used to transport bicycles securely.

The engine available for the Tourneo Active range is the 2.0 EcoBlue in its 185 CV power variant, which can be combined with a manual gearbox or an automatic gearbox. With the manual, the mLSD differential can be fitted. There are various chassis options, with two wheelbase choices.
