Imminently, we have to add a new Chinese brand to the Spanish market, one that belongs to the Chinese group BAIC. It is FOTON, and its introduction is being handled by Astara. This “new” brand won’t ring a bell, but it has been dedicated to commercial vehicles since 1996, with more than 11 million cumulative sales worldwide since its inception, and roughly 800,000 exports.

FOTON’s arrival in Spain comes with a sales network that begins with 10 sales points and after-sales centres, although the brand’s growth outlook for this same year, 2025, is to finish it with sustained growth up to 25 dealerships strategically located throughout Spanish territory, so that they can guarantee 85% coverage along with sales of 500 units.

FOTON’s catalogue in Spain will initially be represented by three models, made up of two pick-up models with a conventional combustion engine or with mild MHEV hybridisation, plus a fully electric van.

The Tunland G7 from FOTON won’t have it easy competing against tough rivals such as the Toyota Hilux or the Ford Ranger, but the Chinese brand’s proposal will undoubtedly be interesting. It will have a total length of 5,340 mm, of which 1,580 mm corresponds to the rear loading area, allowing a maximum payload of 975 kilograms, all wrapped in an undeniably imposing design that stands out with a large front grille where the brand’s nameplate is displayed in large dimensions.
