Geely begins commercialisation of the EX5 SUV in Europe

Geely is strengthening its presence in Europe with a strategy focused on electrification and regional adaptation.

The Chinese car giant also wants to carve out a niche in the competitive European electric car market, and has already taken a first step towards achieving this. The compact electric SUV EX5, under the Geely brand, is already on sale in several European countries, starting with the Balkans, Greece and soon also the United Kingdom, with plans to expand to other countries on the continent in the coming months.

This model has been developed to compete in the compact SUV segment with models from European manufacturers such as the Skoda Elroq, offering advanced features as its main attraction at a highly competitive price.

The Geely EX5 has been on sale in China for some time, although there it is known as the Galaxy E5. Following an event held in Athens, this compact SUV is now also available in Greece, as well as in other countries in the region, including Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Montenegro.

The United Kingdom will be the EX5’s next destination, with deliveries scheduled for the last quarter of 2025. This delay is due to Geely evaluating adjustments to adapt the vehicle to British preferences, relying for this on the experience of the engineers of its Premium brand Lotus.

Technical specifications to consider

With a length of 4.62 metres, the EX5 sits between compact and mid-size SUVs. This model is Geely’s first to obtain certification for the entire European Union, which will facilitate its gradual arrival in other markets on the continent. Equipped with an electric motor on the front axle producing 160 kW and 320 Nm of torque, the EX5 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 175 km/h. It is available with a choice of two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs, with capacities of 49.5 or 60 kWh.

Its range with the higher-capacity battery pack is 430 km, according to the manufacturer, under the WLTP homologation cycle. It also supports fast charging at 100 kW, allowing it to increase its state of charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 28 minutes. Likewise, for AC charging using a wallbox it has a built-in 11 kW charger.

Geely offers you more for less

As we already mentioned at the beginning of this article, the EX5 stands out for its level of equipment. As standard it includes a panoramic roof with eleven adjustment settings and UV protection, a 15.4-inch touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.

In 2024, Geely sold 2.2 million vehicles worldwide, 34 per cent more than the previous year, consolidating its position as a key player with brands as relevant as Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Lynk & Co and Zeekr, as well as its involvement in Smart alongside Mercedes-Benz.
