Genesis GV70 2021: design, engine and other key details about the luxury SUV
The Genesis GV70 could debut next year, in 2021. It will become one of the first of the luxury brand’s new offensive from Hyundai.

The Genesis brand will soon be much more than a range of simple luxury saloons, as Hyundai‘s luxury car division plans to launch a line-up of six new models for 2021. One of them will be a compact luxury SUV called the GV70, which will follow the larger GV80.
In terms of size, it could be considered the SUV version of the G70 saloon, comparable to the BMW X3 and X4 from BMW and the Mercedes-Benz GLC and GLC Coupé.

What can we expect from the Genesis GV70? This new luxury SUV aims to be a bold statement that is more in line with the BMW X4 than a traditional crossover. One of the main talking points is its elegant chrome cabin that flows down over the C-pillars.
It can be said to be a more elegant adaptation of the same treatment used on the Hyundai fence. Another notable design element is a curved line on the shoulder that cascades down to the rear hips, once again emphasising its elegant and sporty nature.

Genesis GV70: what do we know about the luxury SUV arriving in 2021?
The front styling features a large mesh grille with a shield-shaped frame, split LED headlights and a central fold of the Bentley-type on the bonnet. The rear view features split tail lights that mimic those at the front, a large rear diffuser with dual vertical exhausts, and a sloping tail that could have been borrowed from the sporty ProCeed of Kia.
The interior design complements the elegant nature of the exterior, with cascading lines and ovoid shapes. High-quality leather trim and piano black accents will be used throughout the cabin, and the centre console features a BMW iDrive-style controller. Although we have not yet seen the dashboard, we expect it to feature some kind of screen and a digital instrument cluster, with a design very close to the updated G70 saloon that is scheduled to launch the same year.
Tech enthusiasts will appreciate the 8-inch front screen, the 360-degree camera, smartphone mirroring and a premium Lexicon sound system. A full set of driver assistance will be available, including lane-keeping assistance, parking assistance, safe exit assistance and a remote parking system similar to Tesla.

What will power the Genesis GV70 SUV?
As it is based on the same platform as the Genesis G70, the powertrains are also likely to be similar. These will include a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo with around 260 CV and 353 Nm of torque, a new 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder producing 310 CV, and a powerful twin-turbo 3.3-litre V6 delivering 370 CV and 510 Nm.
Other possible (unconfirmed) engine variants include a 2.2 or 3.0-litre turbodiesel for international markets outside the United States, and possibly a plug-in hybrid option. The engines will be paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard, with all-wheel drive.

What will the new Genesis luxury SUV compete against?
The GV70 will face a host of very good crossovers, including models such as the BMW X3 and X4, the Audi Q5, the Range Rover Evoque, the Volvo XC60, the Porsche Macan, the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé, the Jaguar F-Pace, the Infiniti QX50 and the Lincoln Corsair.

While its bigger brother, the GV80 SUV, could debut this month with a market launch set for next year, the GV70 is expected to reach dealerships roughly 12 months later, in 2021, when Genesis will also renew the G70 saloon.
