Genesis unveils its new high-performance brand with the GV60 Magma prototype

Magma is the alternative that Genesis presents to brands with as much prestige as BMW M or Mercedes-AMG, which are dedicated to offering the most spectacular high-performance vehicles

Genesis, the Premium brand of the Hyundai Group, will from now on offer a special series of high-performance vehicles under the Magma name. The South Korean company has just presented several prototypes, among which the GV60 Magma stands out, the first one that will be put into production.

Although for the time being the manufacturer has not revealed the technical specifications of the GV60 Magma, we can take for granted that, like the Genesis GV60, it will be based on the E-GMP platform and will feature an 800V architecture that should allow it to charge at a peak power of at least 240 kW. However, it seems quite likely that both the capacity of the battery pack and the combined power of its two electric motors will be higher.

According to some reports, everything points to the new GV60 Magma borrowing the 84 kWh battery pack we have already seen in the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N. The same will also happen with its motors, capable of delivering a combined power of 478 kW. These figures are clearly higher than the 77.4 kWh battery pack capacity of the Genesis GV60 and the 360 kW of power of the all-wheel-drive version.

This is just the beginning

The GV60 Magma will be joined in the more or less near future, though not yet determined, by other high-performance versions of the models that make up the Genesis range. At an event held in New York, the South Korean manufacturer also referred to the GV80 Magma Coupé SUV, the G80 saloon and the X Gran Berlinetta prototype.

“Genesis Magma represents an exciting opportunity to overcome the barriers established for luxury and high-performance vehicles. With the aim of continuing to develop exclusive models, the brand will continue to unveil experimental prototypes, focusing particularly on technology and design”.

This is how the South Korean company sees the future

As a complement to the new Magma model range, Genesis has also presented the Neolun prototype, a large electric SUV. The company explains that its name comes from the Greek word “Neo” and the Latin word “luna”. Therefore, its translation into Spanish would be something like “Luna Nueva” (New Moon). This prototype integrates all the technological innovations developed by Genesis for its vehicles, which places it well above the industry standards in this area.
