Genesis will not offer any high-performance model, but it will offer electric cars
The new Genesis G70 will not have a high-performance version, nor will the rest of the models in the range, but it will have electric models.

The Genesis G70 will not have a high-performance version when it reaches the market, according to the head of the group’s premium brand, Hyundai, Manfred Fitzgerald, in an interview with the publication Motoring. But that is not all: according to Fitzgerald, no model from the company will offer an N version, the designation given to the models of the sporting division of Hyundai.
Genesis will not develop high-performance models because its head does not really believe that this kind of vehicle will have a major impact once electric cars are fully established.

“The high performance of a car will not be valued in the future in the same way it is today with internal combustion vehicles. Anyone can build an electric motor and put it in a car, so performance figures will be almost the same for everyone. Performance will not be a differentiating factor in the future. Nobody is going to be interested in brand ‘A’ or ‘B’ because of what it offers in this respect, but because of other things. I don’t think creating a sporting division is a wise or rational move,” Fitzgerald asserts.
The head of Genesis is a staunch defender of electric mobility and is convinced that the sporting divisions of traditional brands will end up losing their appeal over time.

“I grew up in that era… all of that, when the sporting versions of models were fine at that time. Now I only look to the future, and I don’t think they will have the same power and the same meaning they had back then,” says the head of Genesis.
The immediate plans of Genesis involve developing as soon as possible a range of electric models that will allow it to enter that market. “What we said is that we will develop two platforms dedicated exclusively to electric cars by 2021 or 2022,” Fitzgerald says. High-performance cars therefore take a back seat.
