GM is considering a small electric off-roader under the Hummer brand
The arrival on the market of several small off-roaders, such as the Ford Bronco, has led GM to want to launch a small-sized Hummer EV.

Imagining an electric off-roader was unthinkable just a few years ago. But the industry has changed a lot. And now it is not unusual for several brands to be offering vehicles of this type powered by an electric drivetrain. General Motors is not lagging behind, having unveiled the imposing Hummer EV. Its goal now seems to be to launch a small off-roader, but also electric.
It is not a far-fetched idea, since small off-roaders are taking up a share of the American market, which is very fond of them. The Ford Bronco is being well received, along with other models such as the Jeep Wrangler. However, the Ford uses combustion engines and the Wrangler has a hybrid version. General Motors wants to get ahead and will offer an electric off-roader to go up against these models.

GM will get ahead of its competitors
The small off-roaders from several manufacturers will be on the market shortly. But for GM this development will take several years. So it believes that proposing versions with combustion engines would delay the project by a time it considers unacceptable. Therefore they will pass over the ICE alternatives and focus on the electric version.
General Motors already has experience with electric models. The Hummer EV is enjoying good success in both the American and international markets. The new model could be launched under the brand and would be a more restrained version of that model. Its target would not only be the local market, but Europe and Asia.
In our country it is difficult for the Hummer EV to be very successful, because it is a massive vehicle that could run into serious problems getting around, and drivers will not have it easy either. A more compact version could make it a very attractive model for the European user.
When the company returns to Europe, something planned for the year 2025, this may be one of the models presented for sale. As for the platform the model will use, it could be the already known Ultium or one of the variants of it that have already been announced. The electric drive system could be a derivative of the one used by the Cadillac Lyriq or the Chevrolet Blazer EV, although it will take a few years to know exactly what this model will be like.
