Goodbye to the Nissan Micra: the next generation will be totally different from what we know
The iconic Japanese city car has stopped being manufactured and will be reconverted into a fully electric car, so it will have little to do with the current one.

A few days ago we were talking about the end of production of one of the best-known cars on the Spanish and European market, the Ford Fiesta. Now it is the turn of another classic city car that has been with us for many years to make its way into automotive history. This is the Nissan Micra, the Japanese city car that is ending production and will return as an electric car.
The last Nissan Micra has already rolled off the line at the Flins plant, near Paris. This brings the model in its fifth generation, known as K14, to an end. It was launched within the Renault-Mitsubishi-Nissan alliance and used the same platform as the Renault Clio IV, as it did with some of its engines.

However, the Clio has switched to the CMF-B platform, which allows hybrid engines. The Micra has continued with this base, although it has become outdated and has no further room for development. That is why its production has been ended and it is moving to an electric model that will be completely different. To shape it, the platform used by the Renault 5 will be used.
This revived classic will be manufactured in Douai and will be on the market from 2025. In this model, the CMF-B EV platform allows the installation of a 45 and 52 kWh battery offering a range of up to 400 kilometres. The motors that the Renault will be equipped with will have a power equivalent to 125 and 150 CV. We do not know whether this will carry over to the new Nissan Micra, but the specifications are likely to be very similar.
As for the Flins plant, its role is going to change very radically. In 2024 production of the Renault Zoe will cease and the plant will stop manufacturing cars. After a thorough remodelling, the plant will be responsible for refurbishing used vehicles to give them a new life, without the need to build a car from scratch. This planning will allow refurbished cars to be placed on the market, recovering the vehicle and lowering the cost.
