Honda introduces slight aesthetic and technological updates to the Civic e:HEV

Honda gives the Civic e:HEV a distinct personality with exterior aesthetic touch-ups, while also introducing small changes for each available trim level

After three years on the market, Honda has decided to introduce new features for the Civic e:HEV. The changes won’t be very profound, but as we’ll see below they touch on several aspects of the Japanese hybrid compact, which, by the way, we tested just a few days after its market launch, and it left us with a very good impression thanks to its handling, responsiveness and consumption.

As you can see from the design side, all trims will benefit from a new front bumper, which modifies its pronounced lines. It also gives a new design to the front grille and the lower air intake, both with a sharper look that adds a more aggressive and sporty touch. In addition, a trim extends from the grille to underline and frame the lower part of the headlights, giving them greater prominence, and along the bottom of the bumper a discreet moulding has been fitted, acting as a splitter in the same colour as the bodywork.

As you can also see, the front fog lights have been removed in favour of discreet side air intakes. This is because the improved technology of the LED light unit is trusted to do the job, so front fog lights are considered unnecessary. The bodywork will also benefit from the new Marine Blue colour, replacing Premium Crystal Blue, and new contrast colours are included, such as Black, Silver and Bronze. We mustn’t forget the new 18-inch wheels with a diamond-cut finish in Grey for the Advance trim and Black for the Sport trim.

Moving to the interior, all versions now feature a black fabric roof and pillars for a greater sense of quality and refinement, along with matt chrome inserts around the air vents. More specifically, the Advance trim includes ambient lighting even in the footwell area; followed by the Sport trim with a new heated steering wheel and a 10.2-inch infotainment screen with clearer, easier-to-read graphics; and finally the Elegance trim, which now has wireless smartphone charging in the centre console for easier access, plus automatic dimming for the interior rear-view mirror.

Otherwise the Honda Civic e:HEV remains the same, including its hybrid powertrain which, as you’ll recall, uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine together with an electric motor and a 1.05 kWh battery, resulting in a combined system output of 184 CV and a torque of 315 Nm.
