Honda will also be present at SEMA with this off-road concept to show what can be achieved with elements found in its cars

SEMA still offers some clues about what will be seen in Las Vegas this weekend and how the main brands on the market want to position themselves in the customisation market. One of the cars that will be on show, and which is more of a study of what they are capable of, is the proposal from Honda for off-road terrain, the Honda Open Air Vehicle.

This off-roader, which has no roof and allows its occupants to be “open air”, has been designed to stand out, and it is unlikely to ever be sold, not even to a limited number of buyers. The Honda Open Air Vehicle is based on two models from the brand, so it features characteristics of both to make it stand out. The models are the pick-up Honda Ridgeline and the Honda Pioneer 1000.

The Honda Open Air Vehicle looks perfect for outdoor adventure, with a set of suspension, protection and tyres capable of tackling any type of terrain. According to the Japanese manufacturer, this comes from the Honda Ridgeline, although it has been suitably modified to shape it into an off-road vehicle.

The Honda Pioneer 1000 contributes the doors and the design of the bed and tailgate. Passengers have additional protection in the form of a net that occupies the space of the windows, and above them there is a rollover protection that will prevent injury in the event of a roll-over. Incidentally, they will be firmly secured by a harness system that keeps them attached to the seats.

These are taken from the Honda Civic Type R, although they have been upholstered in a waterproof material to protect them from the elements and, above all, from the terrain their four occupants may take it over. In addition, two phone holders have been included, which could serve as a navigator and internet connection. It’s a pity it won’t reach production, because it’s the perfect car for tearing across the desert and really challenging terrain. What do you think?
