Honda shows a first prototype of the Acura RSX, which will reach the market in 2026

With this prototype, Honda redefines electric luxury, combining the design of an SUV Coupé with the most advanced technology, thereby setting the course the brand will follow in the future.

Honda plans to begin sales of the Acura RSX in the North American market during the second half of next year. This electric model will also mark the debut of the Japanese manufacturer’s Global Electric Vehicle Platform.

This new prototype of the Acura RSX that Honda has now unveiled shows a design much closer to the final production version we will see in 2026 than the Acura Performance EV prototype presented exactly one year ago. Its styling stands out for a pronounced front end with two-tone paint, with a roofline that descends gently evoking the style of an SUV coupé, while on the sides the robust doors give the vehicle a distinctive character.

As for its propulsion system, what we know for now is that the RSX will feature all-wheel drive, a double-wishbone front suspension tuned for sporty performance, a low centre of gravity and Brembo brakes as standard. Although technical details are limited, the RSX is expected to use the technology of Honda’s Global Platform, which presumably will combine a 180 kW rear motor with a 50 kW front motor to deliver a combined 230 kW.

On the other hand, the capacity of the battery pack has not been revealed yet, but a range of approximately 480 kilometres is estimated under the EPA homologation cycle used in North America.

What else do we know about this future Acura model?

Acura has not gone into detail about the technical specifications of the production RSX, but it has confirmed that its production will take place in 2026 at the Honda EV Hub, a flexible plant of the company located in Marysville, Ohio, which uses domestic and international components. At this plant, the RSX will share its production line with the Acura Integra with an internal combustion engine, as with other models of the Honda itself. It is worth noting that the first electric vehicles of Honda and Acura on the US market, the Honda Prologue and the Acura ZDX, are based on General Motors’ Ultium platform and are produced by that company.

Although so far only exterior images have been shown, the production model will incorporate a significant innovation inside: the Asimo OS operating system. Developed by Acura, this system seeks to personalise the driving experience by learning the driver’s preferences and behaviours, marking the Japanese brand’s entry into the era of software-defined vehicles.

“The bold design of the RSX prototype unveiled now reflects almost four decades of Acura’s legacy in performance and precision. The RSX’s sporty style, with its optimised aerodynamics, redefines the brand’s lines towards a timeless aesthetic and an advanced technological experience, consolidating its unique identity in the luxury market.”
