The Pebble Beach event may be celebrating its centenary, Ferrari the twentieth birthday of the F40 in North America and Bugatti its Veyron Super Sport, but the unveiling of Morgan’s new model should also draw plenty of attention to the new EvaGT stand at this weekend’s Californian event.
The British magazine Autocar has already published the first photographs of the latest engineering work from the British craft sports car maker, and while the teaser had already hinted at a body quite unlike the brand’s previous roadsters, now that the full EvaGT is visible, it is even more striking.

The chassis of this 2+2 coupé uses the same lightweight aluminium as the Aeromax Supersports, but the body also features panels of this metal similar to those found in aircraft structures. Its styling recalls previous Morgan products in only a few details, with similarities in the characteristic front grille and the large wheel arches, but the rest is completely new and turns the EvaGT into an innovative grand tourer ready to rival the best.
To do so, it will have a larger cabin than those offered in previous Morgans, measuring 4’7 metres long, 1’8 wide and 1’2 high, making it one of the largest models Morgan has built. Of its four seats, the two rear ones are for children or adults who are “short”, according to Morgan, and the boot will be quite large. “It is intended to serve as everyday family transport as well as a luxury GT,” said Charles Morgan, grandson of the founder and head of the brand.
As we already mentioned when the EvaGT was announced, its engine is the 3-litre unit originally from BMW with 306 CV, which in the case of the Morgan will consume around 7 litres per 100 kilometres and emit 200 grams of CO2 per kilometre. The EvaGT’s equipment will move away from austerity and include ABS, ESP, xenon headlights, satellite navigation and several airbags. Prices have not yet been decided, as they “will depend on demand”, according to Charles Morgan, though he has assured that it will be cheaper than the Aeromax Supersports, and Autocar notes that, when it goes on sale in 2012, it will reach a maximum of 104,000 euros.
