IONITY starts offering access to other charging operators in Europe

The price to pay when charging at any of the other partners’ stations is not, however, unified and is set by each of them, which introduces a point of friction in the charging experience that should be improved in the future.

IONITY, one of the main fast-charging networks in Europe with a presence across the continent, has just taken an important step forward by deepening its integration with the Charge League alliance, previously known as Spark Alliance. Following in the footsteps of Electra, IONITY has begun allowing its customers to charge at the stations of the other alliance members -Fastned, Electra and Atlante- directly from its own mobile app or by using a company RFID card.

It is worth noting that this interoperability, which avoids fragmentation of the service, was the main goal of ChargeLeague since its creation this past spring.

The alliance, made up of these four operators, began to put this relationship into practice from last July, showing since then in each operator’s app the charging points of the other partners. After this first step, during the WATT 2025 industry summit organised by Charge League held recently, the four partners promised to progressively extend their subscriptions to the entire network. Electra was the first to deliver and now IONITY has fulfilled this promise.

Nothing changes at IONITY’s own charging points

IONITY maintains its usual rates for its own stations: IONITY Go with no monthly fee and 0.62 euros per kWh consumed, IONITY Motion for 5.99 euros per month and 0.46 euros per kWh consumed, as well as IONITY Power for 11.99 euros per month and 0.37 euros per kWh consumed. When charging at any of the other partners’ stations, the price to pay also depends on the subscription one holds.

Finally, it should be noted that at present there is no confirmed date for Fastned and Atlante to complete the reciprocal integration, nor details on how they will structure their prices, but this should happen shortly.

With these moves by the alliance members, Charge League is moving towards a more unified ecosystem for electric vehicle drivers in Europe, although it would also be desirable for them to offer complete uniformity in charging prices, which unfortunately has not yet arrived.
