Is this the French rival to the Ford Focus RS? It seems so
The French brand is ready to take on Ford in the Focus RS segment with a new version of its Megane RS that will try to outperform its American rival and will arrive in 2018, with a new bodyshell and elements borrowed from other RS versions of the brand

The Ford Focus RS is one of the variants of this American model that offers the most power and efficiency. A car worth considering, and not only by its potential buyers. The brands themselves are ready to challenge the maker of the oval, and rumours are already circulating about models that will appear to challenge this car and present a rival worthy of it.
The upcoming Renault Megane RS appears to be the response the French manufacturer is preparing to position itself as the logical and natural rival to the American car. According to the rumours that have started to circulate, this model will offer a five-door bodystyle, as opposed to the coupé configuration of the previous version.
This new version of the Renault Megane RS, and again according to the leak published by AutoExpress, would raise the power of its turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine above 300 CV, pairing the transmission management with a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional EDC automatic gearbox. Both options would come from the Clio RS, while the additional rear-wheel steering would be taken from the Megane GT.

All of this could amount to nothing if it is not confirmed, but it could be confirmed within a few days. For the moment we are approaching the dreaded April Fools’ Day, when many things are said that are nothing more than the pranks the Anglo-Saxons play, and this kind of announcement has to be taken with a pinch of salt.
Even so, it is not surprising that Renault is encouraged to launch a model to position itself in that segment, with changes to match the performance of competitors’ cars. As for the price, it is expected to be somewhat above the current version, since it will offer more power and a bodystyle better suited to carrying more passengers.
