Italdesign i2C, an Italian proposal for the Asian market

The SUV proposed by Italdesign and the government of Indonesia has become the first step toward establishing a strong position in the Southeast Asian market.

A market that goes almost unnoticed but is gaining momentum little by little in Asia is Indonesia. Its government wants the national car industry to be taken into account, at least in the domestic market, and to gain ground against brands arriving from other countries. To achieve this, they have signed an agreement with the Italian designer Italdesign, so this project they have just presented together with PT ITM in Jakarta promises Italian design and much more.

This is a company that has been chosen by the Jakarta government to launch this project, which aims to put the country on the map of Asian car producers. To do so, Italdesign has created an SUV meant to be the ideal model for buyers in Indonesia and also in other neighboring countries.

A robust SUV with national identity

This model has become something more than a model designed to revive the national industry, as it has been developed using materials typical of Indonesia to create a vehicle that conveys part of the culture and strength of Indonesia. Batik, a traditional fabric present in Indonesian culture, with references to the Garuda, the national symbol.

The vehicle features an electric drivetrain, with a battery that will provide a fairly interesting range. That said, the Jakarta government has not yet released any concrete data on the capabilities of this SUV, which is aimed mainly at the public sector.

It will be presented at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show, and that is where more will be known about this joint project between Indonesia and the Italian company. For Italdesign, it is the beginning of a long-term relationship that will strengthen its ties with the country. For Indonesia, it is one more step toward becoming a benchmark for sustainable mobility in Southeast Asia. It is worth remembering that the country has large nickel reserves, a very important raw material for battery manufacturing.
