Kia EV4; everything we know about the new electric SUV

The future Kia EV4 will sit in the range below the Kia EV5 and the Kia EV6.

The electric range of Kia will soon be completed with the upcoming Kia EV4. This model will be positioned in the brand’s lineup between the Kia EV5 and the Kia EV6. Everything points to the Kia EV4 competing in the compact SUV segment and catering to the needs of European drivers. It is also expected to become the new flagship of the zero-emission range, at least until the Kia EV3 reaches the market.

For the time being, the brand is keeping the details of its upcoming models under wraps, but if we follow the logic, the Kia EV4 will be smaller than the Kia EV6 and the Kia EV5. The Kia EV4 will probably have a body similar to that of the second-generation Kia Soul EV, which reached the market in 2018.

There are no photos of the next model yet, but some sources have suggested that the future Kia EV4 will be inspired by the current Kia EV6, especially in the window line, rear light clusters and side surfaces. However, it will have a less futuristic look than the Kia EV9. The front end may be reminiscent of the combustion-engined Kia Carens and will offer much sportier GT-Line and GT versions.

The interior of the Kia EV4 is expected to feature a digital cabin with dual screens housed in the same panel, similar to the setup found in the Kia Sportage. The company may also incorporate sustainable upholstery materials, as many of its rivals in this segment have done. In addition, the EV4’s electric platform will allow interior space similar to that of its competitors despite a smaller footprint, making efficient use of the available room.

As with all of the new zero-emission models from Hyundai and Kia, the next EV4 is expected to use the dedicated E-GMP architecture. This platform will allow the SUV to borrow the 58 kWh and 77.4 kWh battery pack options from the larger EV6, providing competitive range. Similarly, the entry-level single-motor EV6, which produces 170 CV and 350 Nm of torque, sounds like an excellent option for the segment.

In terms of technology, the Kia EV4 is expected to come equipped with the latest version of Kia’s ADAS suite, called “AutoMode”. It is also likely that the model will support over-the-air (OTA) updates and software-enabled feature-on-demand (FoD) services, which will be available at a cost. These features were first announced on the flagship EV9 SUV and will be available across the range in the coming years.
