Kia Stinger 2021: update for the sports saloon

Kia announces an update for the Stinger focused on aesthetic details, interior finishes and the multimedia system.

Kia Stinger 5

One of the sports saloons with the best value for money in its category, the Kia Stinger, receives an update for 2021. The changes focus mainly on slight design changes both outside and inside, as well as the arrival of new personalisation packs and a more advanced infotainment system.

Among the most significant exterior changes are the new LED headlights with a new daytime running light at both the front and rear. In the latter case, the light bar joining the rear lights follows the profile of the spoiler integrated into the boot lid.

New LED headlights and improved multimedia screen

The indicators are also new, made up of 10 LED units that mimic a chequered flag. For the more powerful versions, a larger rear diffuser and two dual exhaust outlets with chrome trims are offered. The wheels, available in 18 and 19 inches, have a new design.

Kia will offer two new exterior packs, called Dark and Black, the latter reserved for the American market, which add style details such as chrome or darkened finishes.

The dashboard design of the Kia Stinger is retained inside, although the brand says it has changed some materials to increase the sense of luxury and exclusivity. Contrast stitching for the upholstery, new aluminium or carbon fibre inserts and new upholstery colours stand out.

But the most interesting thing is the new digital instrument cluster with a 7-inch screen, as well as the new touchscreen of the multimedia system, with 10.25 inches and improved software. The new ambient lighting system will allow a choice of more than 60 colours.

Awaiting electrified versions

For now, Kia has not revealed further details about the Stinger 2021, of which it shows images in its configuration for the Korean market. The current range includes a version with a 2.2 CRDi turbodiesel engine producing 200 CV, and two versions with petrol engines: a 4-cylinder 2.0 Turbo with 245 CV and a 3.3-litre V6 with 365 CV.

What Kia does announce is that more details will be revealed later, “including its new technologies and range of propulsion systems”. Will we see an electrified version, either with MHEV technology or a plug-in hybrid, allowing a Stinger with an ECO or ZERO emissions label? We will know soon enough. For now, rumours persist about the arrival of more powerful engines for the Stinger.
