TruCAM II, the new radar under testing by the DGT that can fine you from 1.5 km away
The DGT is already testing the new TruCAM II, the second generation of the radar, featuring LiDAR technology and Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity to monitor traffic offences.

The radars used by the DGT are designed to capture offences committed by drivers, above all speeding. There are several types of radar, as we already know, and each one works in a different way, although they all pursue the same goal: to detect and record the existence of the offence so that a penalty can be imposed.
In addition to all those currently in service, a new radar will soon enter service. It is currently being tested by the DGT on Spanish roads and represents a new generation of these devices for monitoring safety on Spain’s roads and highways.

TruCAM II, the new radar
TruCAM is the most popular radar in use in Spain, and TrueCAM II is the second generation of this model. It is a radar based on LiDAR laser technology which, among other improvements over earlier models, can record an offence at a distance of up to 1.5 kilometres, compared with the 800 metres that the radars in service can manage.
But that is not all. The new TrueCAM II units do not only record speeding; they can also photograph and document aggressive driving, phone use and even failure to wear a seatbelt. All in all, it is a radar that can document any offence easily and without being detected because of distance.
The radar has an LCD screen on the rear, where the photos taken by the TrueCAM II can be viewed. Incidentally, these are taken every 0.3 seconds, so there can be a series of shots of the same vehicle that properly document the offence. These images can be sent in real time to the Guardia Civil de Tráfico, so officers can immediately download them to their mobile devices or computers to view the offence.
It has Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity, so it can remain connected in real time, and its battery lasts between 8 and 10 hours. It is very small, just 21 cm long and weighing only 1.6 kg. It is discreet, efficient, and its operation is immune to radar jammers, so it will become a practical tool for combating road insecurity once it passes the tests it is currently undergoing.
