'La Voiture Noire', the most expensive car in the world, pays tribute to the legendary Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic

The Geneva Motor Show witnessed the official unveiling of the new most expensive car in the world. It is called ‘La Voiture Noire’ and it was developed by Bugatti. This new model from the French brand has become an object of desire, and that is because Bugatti has built only a single unit. What is exclusive is not only the model but also its price, which is around eleven million euros.

As the brand points out, this hypercar aims to pay tribute to the legendary Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic. This exclusive unit of the Bugatti has already been sold to a car collector.

A name that captivates

The name of this hypercar is no coincidence. ‘La Voiture Noire’ has a special meaning: Jean, the son of Ettore Bugatti, was involved in the development of one of the four, and only, Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic. He also affectionately nicknamed his unit ‘La Voiture Noire’, which in Spanish translates as “the black car“.

Some sources claim that Jean’s Type 57 Bugatti disappeared before the Second World War began. This remains a mystery to this day.

Stephan Winkelmann, president of the brand, has stated that “for Bugatti, ‘La Voiture Noire’ is more than a simple reminiscence of the iconic Atlantic, as this vehicle seeks to pay tribute to a long tradition, to France and to the creative work of Jean Bugatti”.

A limited edition of one unit

Although the name of the mysterious buyer has not been revealed, some sources claim it could be Ferdinand Piëch, former president of Volkswagen and a great enthusiast of luxury cars.

The new most expensive car in the world is powered by an eight-litre, 16-cylinder (W16) quad-turbo petrol engine capable of delivering a staggering 1,500 CV to the driver, with a peak torque of 1,600 Nm. It is important to highlight that all the components of the new hypercar from Bugatti have been hand-built. Furthermore, the model is even more exclusive as it is made of carbon fibre, has a monocoque body and features six exhaust outlets.

The top speed of the exclusive Bugatti is 500 km/h. Additionally, although it is not an official figure, everything points to it being capable of going from 0 to 400 km/h in just 3 seconds.

Tribute to the Type 57 SC Atlantic

‘La Voiture Noire’ aims to pay tribute to one of the most legendary Bugatti in automotive history, the Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic, of which only four units were built between 1936 and 1938.

The lines of the hypercar bear a close resemblance to its forebear, in a year when the Bugatti brand turns 110 years old, but that is not the only link. If you look closely at the rear wheel arches, you can make out a muscular bulge, typical of the French brand’s vehicles.

Another detail that does not go unnoticed is its wheels. Although the size is unknown, it is impossible not to look at them, and even while standing still, they give a sense of movement.
