The Lamborghini Centenario withdrawn in the United States... due to an issue with its specifications, and only for the time being

The Lamborghini Centenario, which commemorates the founder’s centenary, has been held back from the US market due to a registration problem

The Lamborghini Centenario arrived last year to honour the brand’s founder, who would have turned 100 in 2017. The company set out to put into practice everything it had learned over its long history. It is a model based on the Aventador, which is already quite striking in its own right. To make it even more impressive, it uses the same 6.5-litre V12 engine, upgraded to 759 CV. This makes it more powerful than the Lamborghini Veneno, which is based on the same model and sits below it.

With this engine it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 350 km/h, which is astonishing for anyone behind the wheel. Only 40 units were built, with a new bodywork designed so that this commemorative model would not resemble any other car the brand had produced. 20 were built as coupés and 20 as convertibles. Of these, 11 reached the United States, and that is where the problem lies.

These eleven cars have been recalled by the authorities and withdrawn from the market. For the moment, they cannot be driven in the North American country. And it is not that any problem has been detected in the formidable engine, the electrical system or any other technical area. Apparently, an error has been found in the labelling of its specifications.

Apparently, it concerns an error in the recorded gross vehicle weight of the model. As the correct figure does not appear, there are problems with the vehicle’s homologation. A tiny detail, but one that can cause serious headaches for the manufacturer and distributors in the country. In fact, it is simply a matter of changing the label with the data for each vehicle, but because they are registered with an incorrect figure, this entails an administrative process that may take some time.

Fortunately, work on this is already under way, and buyers of the Lamborghini Centenario in the United States should soon have the car in their garage. After the considerable outlay needed to buy one of the Centenarios, it is frustrating not to be able to sit behind the wheel of this remarkable car.
