Lego's Land Rover Defender is a true miniature 4x4

The Land Rover Defender has just hit the market, but Lego has already built a faithful representation of both its styling and its off-road capabilities

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but in this case we think a miniature is worth a thousand words. This is due to the huge anticipation surrounding the new Land Rover Defender, a vehicle that looks very promising but whose real worth has yet to be tested. Nevertheless, the partnership between the British brand and Lego has brought us a little closer to the 4×4’s performance level, thanks to a scale model that not only boasts a highly accomplished design, but also a very revealing off-road capability.

As Lego has accustomed us with its cars based on real vehicles, the level of detail is overwhelming. Not only in the visual department, but also in the features it offers its users despite being a toy or model. With this premise, we are convinced that the real Defender will have a range of off-road qualities worth admiring.

A total of 2,573 pieces go into making the Lego Defender, meaning its owners will need a few hours to put it together. However, once this process is complete, it is easy to appreciate the countless functional mechanical components the engineers have fitted into this model, with the aim of providing unprecedented realism.

Steering, the extension cable and the differential locks are some of the wonders the Lego Defender offers. From inside the cabin itself we can operate both the transfer case and the various locks, thus offering a preview of the capability of the real Land Rover Defender, a vehicle that has already set its sights on models such as the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the Jeep Wrangler and the Toyota Land Cruiser.

This model also features independent suspension with truly astonishing articulation. The inline six-cylinder engine has also been faithfully reproduced in this model, and in fact there is a mechanism that makes these move. The tailgate is also functional, and it is operated via the spare wheel mounted in the same position as on the real vehicle.

For the time being, neither Lego nor Land Rover have revealed the price of this scale Defender, but it can be purchased online from 1 October. Without a doubt, the British company has launched a product that not only carries a strong legacy, but is also set to keep the 4×4 segment alive in these dark times it is going through, a task entrusted to the Lego model.
