Rivian Electric Cars Pick-up SUV Technology
Lenovo's electric cars will include a vehicle-to-vehicle charging function
RJ Scaringe, CEO of Rivian, has assured that his electric cars will be able to be charged from “Rivian to Rivian” and share electrons.

Lenovo’s electric cars will include a vehicle-to-vehicle charging function. RJ Scaringe, CEO of Rivian, has revealed a number of interesting things about the company and its electric cars during an interview with the specialist media outlet The Drive.
Rivian was founded a decade ago and, in 2022, unveiled for the first time an electric sports car. After that moment, the company entered a “stealth mode”, avoiding public attention and quietly shifting its focus from a sports car to an SUV and a pickup truck, presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

These two ‘secret’ vehicles from the electric car manufacturer are the Rivian R1S and the Rivian R1T. Both models are based on the Skateboard architecture of Rivian and are being marketed to the most adventurous drivers. As a result, the company is looking at several ways to ensure that the Rivian R1S and the Rivian R1T can be used far from charging stations.
When asked about the possibility of installing charging stations in US national parks, Scaringe assured that “we have designed the vehicle so that it can have auxiliary battery packs.” “It can also charge from Rivian to Rivian, which is a very good thing. You connect the two vehicles and then some electrons are exchanged. That takes us to the limit and, of course, you can always find a corner of the world where it doesn’t work, just as you can’t find a petrol station in Antarctica.”

The Rivian vehicles will be able to charge each other
One of the biggest concerns of electric car drivers is charging time. The time it takes an electric car to charge is decreasing as the months go by and even with the development of new batteries and fast-charging systems, this is also due to the 800-volt technology that will be introduced, in the not-too-distant future, in the new Porsche Taycan.
Rivian has pointed out that buyers could gain 321 kilometres of range on their cars in 30 minutes, and they believe that faster charging with current technology will eventually degrade the lithium-ion battery cells. “Over the next five years we will see many demonstrations of vehicles that can be recharged in fifteen minutes, but if you do it 30 times, the battery will overheat and could start to degrade,” added the CEO of Rivian.
