Lucid Motors already has a first prototype of what will be the third electric model in its lineup
We should get to know this model before the end of the year, which is set to compete with rivals such as the Tesla Model Y.
Lucid Motors, the California-based electric vehicle startup headquartered in Newark, currently sells only two premium models: the Air saloon and the Gravity SUV. This situation is set to change soon with the market launch of a more affordable electric SUV, with which the company aims to reach a larger number of customers and thereby substantially increase its delivery volumes.
Regarding this upcoming launch, Nick Twork, head of communications at Lucid Motors, recently stated on the social network X that he had attended the assembly of a first prototype of this new model. In his words, this vehicle retains the essence of the brand, but will be much more affordable thanks to advances made in the production process that will make a significant reduction in costs possible.

Although everything points to this first model being an SUV, as we have already mentioned, the company is also working on the development of two other vehicles based on the same platform and with similar dimensions. Back in 2024, Derek Jenkins, Senior Vice President of Design and Brand, confirmed this strategy and ruled out the possibility of an electric estate model reaching the market. It therefore seems most likely that these three vehicles will be an SUV, a saloon and another model with certain off-road capabilities.
With these future launches, the main goal of Lucid Motors is to enter a segment of the market where demand is much higher, with starting prices of around 50,000 dollars in the United States.
Made in Saudi Arabia
Although these prototypes have been assembled at the company’s plant in Arizona, the series production of these models will take place at the plant that Lucid Motors has in Saudi Arabia, as the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Marc Winterhoff, has indicated. This decision responds to the strategy of scaling volumes and taking advantage of investments from the Saudi sovereign fund, the company’s main shareholder.

The market arrival of these vehicles is planned from the end of 2026 onwards, probably starting with the SUV, with deliveries ramping up throughout 2027. If Lucid Motors manages to keep its promise of offering premium levels of efficiency and performance at a more affordable price, it could revolutionise the market by capturing a significant share of the pie. Although for that to happen, they still have a lot of work to do.
