Maybach, one more month to clarify its future

If just a few weeks ago we were talking about the dark future looming over a brand as exclusive as Maybach, today we have to talk about the rumors being spread by certain German publications specialized in the automotive sector, which claim that Daimler has postponed for one more month the decision on what to do with Maybach in the short term.

As you well know, until now things were quite simple, since there were only two possible paths: either put an end to the brand and lock it away in that dark chest of memories, or have a major manufacturer, in this case Aston Martin was mentioned, join forces with Daimler to build, together, the next generation of ultra-luxury vehicles.

Apparently, and according to these rumors, Daimler’s executives may have come up with a different idea: turning Maybach into a sub-brand within Mercedes. This would mean something very simple. Just as when we see AMG we understand we are looking at one of the most sporty models in the Mercedes range, seeing Maybach would tell us we are looking at a vehicle of high luxury and details “on another level” in terms of quality. Following this new path, the “Maybach level” would be available only on vehicles of the calibre of the S-Class, CL and GL.

On the other hand, we cannot overlook the idea of Aston Martin as a partner within Daimler. Contrary to what one might think, the English manufacturer apparently would be very interested in this collaboration. Because of this, and according to Automotive News, Aston Martin reportedly presented a highly ambitious project consisting of no fewer than four clearly differentiated prototypes.

Apparently, and above all thanks to this latest information, Maybach’s future could finally become more or less clear, far from the terrible news of its closure or sale. Ideally, an external “partner” would work so that Maybach could remain “independent“; if there is no other option, at least we would still have the chance to buy a Maybach the way people buy an AMG today.
