720S McLaren Convertibles Supercars
McLaren 720S Spider, the convertible with a hard top and 720 CV
The convertible version of the McLaren 720S has arrived, completing the range of this supercar, with a very special roof that can be made translucent

Just a few weeks ago we were wondering whether the novelty McLaren would present this month would be the convertible version of its McLaren 720S, a supercar that has been on the market for some time and that led us to believe it wouldn’t be long before it arrived. Finally, the convertible version has been unveiled, and this is what we can tell you about it.
To shape this version, McLaren has reworked its Monocage II-S carbon monocoque platform to give it greater structural strength, something essential when we’re talking about a convertible model. The incorporation of the mechanism to retract the roof, the presence of two roll hoops that deploy in the event of a rollover, and other features of the model mean the car weighs about 49 kg more than the coupé version, reaching 1,339 kg.

The technology to remove or put the roof back on allows this action to be carried out in just 11 seconds and at a maximum speed of 50 km/h. The roof, the distinguishing element of this version, has another important feature. It can optionally incorporate an electrochromic glass panel whose transparency can be varied by an electric current flowing through it. This way, the driver can have a panoramic roof if they wish when the roof is fitted.

As for the propulsion system powering this model, it uses the same engine found in the McLaren 720S Coupé. It is a 720 CV Twin Turbo V8 engine with a maximum torque of 770 Nm. With this engine, the characteristics of the coupé version are maintained, and it achieves 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 2.9 seconds, reaching 200 km/h in 7.9 seconds, one tenth of a second slower than the coupé.
The top speed is set at 325 km/h with the roof stowed and 341 km/h with it closed. As for prices, it is expected to reach 273,000 euros in the European market, so if you fancy owning one of these impressive convertible supercars, you can start saving.
