Mercedes-Benz Clase A 250e: 73 kms of electric range for the PHEV version

The Mercedes-Benz Clase A 250e is the latest model to join the EQ Power family, so here we have the PHEV version of the brand’s compact

A few days ago we told you that Mercedes-Benz launched three new plug-in hybrid models in its range: the Mercedes-Benz GLA EQ Power and the Mercedes-Benz CLA EQ Power in their Coupé and Shooting Brake versions.

However, there was still one member of the brand’s compact family yet to arrive: the Mercedes-Benz Clase A. Well, there’s no need to wait any longer, as the EQ Power version has just been unveiled.

Mercedes Benz Clase A 250e (1)Orders are already being accepted for the Mercedes-Benz Clase A 250e in its hatchback and saloon configurations. These versions will be hard to tell apart on the street, as the only visible difference will be the distinctive e in the model name.

However, the changes lie under the skin: for example, the exhaust system exits in the central part of the vehicle. This unusual change has a reason: the fuel tank has been integrated where the exhaust would normally go, and the space left by the exhaust is taken up by the batteries, so neither interior space nor boot capacity is compromised.

The brand’s distinctive MBUX infotainment system also gets changes, adding two new driving modes: Electric and Battery Level. The first deactivates the combustion engine so the car can run in zero-emissions mode, while the second preserves the charge in the batteries.Mercedes Benz Clase A 250e (3)

The Mercedes-Benz Clase A 250e comes with 218 CV and a 0 DGT label

The powertrain consists of a four-cylinder 1.33-litre engine shared with models such as the Dacia Duster we tested a few months ago. This engine works alongside an electric motor delivering 75 kW, or 100 CV.

When both work together, the Mercedes-Benz Clase A 250e produces 218 CV and 450 Nm of torque. This setup is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, giving it performance that can outshine many rivals: 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 235 km/h.

When connected to a 7.4 kW wallbox, the Mercedes-Benz Clase A 250e can charge its batteries in just 1 hour and 45 minutes.

To further encourage purchases, Mercedes-Benz has reached an agreement with Iberdrola so that customers of the electrified range can benefit from the installation of a charging point at their homes.

The only thing left to know is the price of the Mercedes-Benz Clase A 250e: the first units will start arriving at dealerships next April, and if you want one, its starting price is 39,350 euros.
