Mercedes-Benz unveils the new version of its G-Class ready for combat
The star brand has just launched a version of its iconic off-roader that will only be available to government and military agencies

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is undoubtedly one of the most iconic models which, since its debut in 1979, has managed to purely maintain its essence without losing its great capabilities and its unmistakable style.
Initially developed as a vehicle for military and industrial use, the third generation we have with us today debuts a new version that returns to its origins and is presented as the ideal military vehicle option for rescue operations and special operations.
Free of superfluous elements
This G-Class W464 introduces equipment novelties such as LED headlights, optimised fuel consumption of between 6 and 8% and a 24-volt electrical system. As you can see, unlike the conventional version, which is full of “frills”, its novelties focus not on great luxuries but on maximum practicality and functionality.

Based on the G 350 d version, this military G-Class will mount the 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbodiesel inline engine which in this case will deliver around 245 CV and develop up to 600 Nm of maximum torque. With these figures, we can see that the G 350 d’s engine has been improved by 35% in power and 50% in torque.
This engine is coupled to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and, as is obvious, to all-wheel drive that allows the power to be transmitted to the ground ideally. In addition, among its novelties is an improvement in its payload, which is key considering that this military G-Class will be able to tow heavy trailers.

Will there be an accessible version?
As you may have already read, this G-Class will only be available to government and military agencies and not for civilian use. However, some rumours suggest there will be a version available to anyone with the 2.9 engine from the G 400 d.
At the moment we do not know more details about when it will arrive, but we do know that it will land in Europe prepared to face the most extreme missions.
