Cooper Works Convertible 2

MINI lovers have something to celebrate. The car manufacturer has announced the launch of a new version within its family of convertibles.

We are talking about the John Cooper Works Convertible, the most powerful edition of all those available in the range, which reaches dealerships with 231 CV full of character.

Since its “rebirth” back in 2002, the MINI has always enjoyed a long list of sporty versions and editions, which have always achieved enormous sales success. The spiciest models, those signed as “John Cooper Works”, are among the most popular thanks to a sportiness that matches performance more typical of much more expensive cars.

Cooper Works Convertible 3

The current third generation has been characterised from the very first moment as the most innovative of all, incorporating a technological load never before seen in a MINI. To highlight some elements, this generation of MINI (called F56) has introduced, for the first time, three-cylinder engines, an 8-speed gearbox, preventive safety systems, and headlights with Full LED technology.

The version in question is, to say the least, special. Not only because it is signed as “John Cooper Works”, which guarantees sportiness and performance in abundance, but also because all these qualities can be enjoyed with the top down.

In terms of design, it is clear that this MINI is fully a MINI. Clearly recognisable as a model from the brand, in this case the manufacturer’s intentions are clear: maximum sportiness. On the exterior, the sport-style bumpers stand out, with larger air intakes. There are also 18-inch alloy wheels with a specific design, which conceal an oversized brake system with 4-piston fixed calipers on the front axle. At the rear, the double central exhaust outlet stands out, part of the sport exhaust system. A notable feature is the soft top, in fabric as always, but which for the first time can display shapes and designs.

For the first time, the fabric soft top can be decorated with screen prints

Inside, the atmosphere is clearly focused on sportiness, thanks to the use of glossy trims, contrasting coloured upholstery, specific instrumentation and elements exclusive to this version. The seats stand out above all, with semi-bucket shapes, which can be upholstered in an attractive mix of leather and Alcantara. Space in the cabin, let’s not kid ourselves, is not outstanding. It would be more accurate to speak of a “2+2” rather than “4 seats”.

Cooper Works Convertible 7

Mechanically, the John Cooper Works Convertible sets itself apart from its rivals by fitting a 2.0 four-cylinder engine, turbocharged and mounted front-transverse. It delivers 231 CV and 320 Nm, and can be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed Steptronic automatic.

Performance is, in any case, brilliant, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds with the automatic gearbox, and 6.6 seconds with the manual transmission. Top speed is 240 km/h.
