MINI has announced the launch of the entry-level version within its 5-door model range. Currently, the MINI is sold with 3-door and 5-door bodywork, and in the latter case the 90 CV One is the least powerful alternative.

With this launch, the two ranges are brought into line, since the less powerful version is already available on the 3-door hatchback under the name MINI One First.

Externally there are no notable changes compared with the One versions, except for the exhaust tailpipe, which on this version has no chrome trim. In addition, the trim above the rear number plate is finished in black plastic.

Inside, there are no striking changes either, as the brand assures that this version is just another one within the range. Even though it is the most affordable and least powerful alternative, its driver will still feel like they are in a MINI.

The most noteworthy novelty is under the bonnet. A small 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine producing 75 CV brings this 5-door MINI to life, designed to move with ease through urban traffic. Thanks to a small turbocharger, maximum torque rises to 150 Nm from very low revs, resulting in a very pleasant driving experience.

Although its performance does not make it fast (it takes 13.2 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h), we are sure it will be able to get around the big cities with skill, the MINI’s preferred terrain. Moreover, consumption does not soar, thanks to direct injection, the Start&Stop system and the 6-speed manual gearbox. The homologated CO2 emissions are 121 g per kilometre, equivalent to an average consumption of 5.2 litres per 100 km.

The entry-level version of the 5-door MINI will reach dealerships across Europe in March, just after the Geneva Motor Show.
