New BMW M550i xDrive, for now the most powerful 5 Series

It has not yet reached the market, about a little over a month away, but the new BMW 5 Series keeps bringing us news after news, each one juicier than the last. This time I bring you the BMW M550i xDrive, the most powerful 5 Series so far, tuned by the hands of BMW M Performance. And I say “so far” because this model will serve as a prelude to the BMW M5, which gives us an idea of where things are heading.

If you remember, a few days ago I told you about the arrival of a number of accessories for the new BMW 5 Series from BMW M Performance, which change the look of the new German saloon towards a more sporty variant. In this BMW M550i xDrive you will find them all together: on the outside, the M aerodynamic package along with the rear spoiler in the “Gurney” style combine with the M sport exhaust system, the Shadow Line styling package and various design elements that give it a beautiful and more aggressive appearance.

Once we open its doors, the illuminated M550i xDrive legend will welcome us, while the M sport seats in Dakota black leather with blue stitching will hold us perfectly in place. The interior design is finished off with the M sport steering wheel, the floor mats also with the special M design, and the aluminium pedals that will try to convey the best possible sensations to us.

The icing on the cake lies hidden under its bonnet, where a powerful 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with Twin-Scroll technology is housed, delivering a not inconsiderable 462 CV of power and a maximum torque of 650 Nm. These figures allow it to accelerate to 100 km/h in just 4 seconds; the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h and its combined consumption is set at a modest 8.9 litres per 100 km. This powerful engine works together with a sporty 8-speed Steptronic transmission, which sends all the power to the four wheels thanks to the intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system, or favouring the rear axle depending on each situation.

Once we have started up this beautiful beast, the sensations can be more precise thanks to the Sport or Sport+ setting of the power steering with specific M characteristics. Braking is entrusted to sport brake discs with metallic blue calipers. But all this power will not be at odds with comfort and new technologies, so the BMW M550i xDrive will come with all the standard and optional equipment we can find in the new 5 Series.

The new BMW M550i xDrive will reach dealerships slightly after the launch of the new 5 Series, but you won’t have to wait long if you want it in your garage; in fact, from March onwards you will be able to have yours.
