Likewise, we then learned that it would be during the German show when we would discover all the details of this new car, whose greatest appeal would undoubtedly be its version as a Renault Captur plug-in hybrid or, as it will be commercially known,

Thus, under the seemingly endless name Renault Captur E-TECH Plug-in Hybrid, the Renault Captur PHEV will be sold. A vehicle that positions itself as the biggest draw in the range, especially for those looking for a city car with crossover looks and the ability to display the environmental labels issued by the DGT.

The result of a joint effort

Conceived, technologically, from the joint effort made in terms of electrification of the cars of the brands that form the Alliance (Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi), its architecture is built on the modular platform known as CMF-B.

Nuevo Renault CLIOThanks to this new structure, the 2020 Renault Captur is lighter than its predecessor, which directly and, regardless of the engine, helps to reduce fuel consumption and, therefore, to be more efficient in the use of fossil fuels, which helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.

This is how Renault embraces the partial electrification of its propulsion systems, adopting the plug-in hybrid layout for this urban, hybrid and plug-in SUV.

The mechanics of the Renault Captur plug-in hybrid

The main engine of the Renault Captur PHEV is a 1.6-litre petrol unit paired with two electric motors and a new multimode gearbox.

The 1.6 petrol engine has been revised and practically reconfigured to accommodate the technology needed to incorporate the electric motors, thanks to the expertise provided by the Renault F1 Team department, a competition specialist responsible for the hybrid engine of the brand’s single-seaters in the prestigious Formula 1 motor racing category.

The electricity that powers the electric motors comes from a 9.8 kWh lithium-ion battery and a charging socket compatible with Mode 2, suitable for domestic power outlets, and Mode 3, for use at charging stations.

As expected, the Renault Captur E-TECH Plug-in Hybrid will feature an energy regeneration system based on harnessing the energy generated in situations such as braking or deceleration.

In electric mode, the range of the Renault Captur PHEV will be 45 km, and it can run in 100 percent electric mode up to a speed of 135 km/h.
